The Blues in Three Lines

Let's have some fun. I'm about done in with feeling blue over the lost of Gumbo. I'm still sad but it's beginning to smother me and that's my signal for a little distraction.

Time to tacky up a revered form of Japanese poetry.

Stand at streetcar stop
Drizzle starts and annoys me
Either rain or don't.

Soccer's on TV
Please! Luca! Just make a goal!
I'm a nervous wreck.

Had shrimp for supper
With pasta, veggies and sauce
Pink curls of heaven.

Yay! Ribéry scores!
A goal in the last minute!
He's my French boyfriend.

Two goals against us.
Impossible to win now.
Soccer is grueome.

Great. Now I'm bluer than when I started.

No poems tomorrow. Some good shuffling though. Drop on by and wear your dancing shoes.

Edited to add: I think I just had a heart attack. The Getafe vs. Bayern-München was tied after 90 minutes but since their first game was also tied 1-1 they had to play overtime. Within just a few minutes of the first overtime period Getafe scored 2 goals. What's the chances of coming back from that? Normally those chances would be pretty slim but Luca Toni (my Italian boyfriend) scored one goal and then literally in the last minute he scored another goal. Game over. It was 3-3 but since Bayern scored more goals when they were the away team they move ahead in the UEFA cup.

Now I have to restart my heart.

Thursday Haiku

Life looks better when it's put into verse.

Throat raw and scratchy
Nose sniffles and I'm tired
Yep! I've caught a cold!

I have sent email
Need info, get no reply
It's my punishment.

Bakery lady
Why so surly this morning?
Who peed on your rolls?

Picked up new glasses
Have to get used to my face
All over again.

Daffodils start out
Looking like asparagus
Turn into sunshine.

Must go and lay down
I'm fussy, sleepy, cranky
Yes, I'm a toddler.

Come back tomorrow and Bixente the iPod will shuffle for you. And we'll dance.

Thursday Haiku

Maybe if I entice her with some I can get Sari to haiku too.

Stop that piano
Neighbor's playing three hours
Out of tune torture.

No knitting today
And not yesterday either
I'm way off schedule.

Postman rings doorbell
My birthday presents are here!
Open them next week.

Need a manicure
Could use a pedicure too
Now where's that nail file?

Got Gerd's 'puter fixed
Can go online wireless
Now leave me alone!

Mardi Gras comes soon
Want to bake me a King Cake
All green, gold, purple.

Tomorrow's Friday
You know that brings the Shuffle
Bixente's ready.

Thursday Haiku

Sorry to let you down but there will be no photo spread of me washing my windows. You'll have to put up with a bit of haiku instead - a bulleted list with culture.

Oh hush! If you whine about the poetry I really will make you look at window washing pictures.

Caught in a rainstorm
Umbrella was left at home
Got drenched to the skin.

It was a shame too
I had a perfect hair day
My curls were destroyed.

Bought new shower gel
It smells fresh like cucumbers
Soap and snack in one.

Pizza for supper
Good, but it leaves you thirsty
Could drink an ocean.

Oh online shopping
How did I live before you?
Mall comes to my door.

Books! CDs! Clothes! Shoes!
Gadgets and gizmos galore!
And no shopping bags!

Confess it to me
Do you count the syllables
To be sure I'm right?

No window washing nor photos to memorialize it nor even poetry for tomorrow we shuffle!

Desperate Thursday Haiku

Can I haiku for two Thursdays in a row? Why sure I can! And eat a sandwich too! All without a net!

My Thursday fall back
When inspiration runs low
Rely on what works.

More poems for you
Summing up my life in verse
It's this or it's dots.

Not happy with sock
The Pink Ribbon one, I mean
Rip out, start again.

Can't make sucky sock.
It's too important for that.
It's for charity!

Pissing rain today
And where's my umbrella?
It's nowhere near me!

You know what? Forget it. This is too much like work. I need at least something about which to write and today's events aren't meeting me even halfway. I'm serious - the most noteworthy even that occurred today was getting my hair colored and my bangs cut and since that happens every six weeks it hardly garners a mention. Not even peppy haiku can save this festival of boredom.

C'mon back tomorrow. Bixente the iPod will shuffle and I'll roll back the rugs and we'll dance. No syllable restrictions either.

Thursday Haiku

I'd like to thank y'all for the kind greetings for Independence Day. It means a lot that you were thinking of me as you celebrated the holiday.

Let's jump right into some haiku. Nothing like a little 3 line, 5-7-5 syllable poem to help sum up your day.

Last season of M*A*S*H
Delivered to me today
Fave show of all time.

Postman comes to door
My hair's still up in curlers
At least my bra's on.

Sock knitting slows down
Second sock always the same
Takes me twice as long.

Diamonds dull - must clean!
Use brush and baking soda
And the sparkle's back.

All that mayonnaise?
The five pint jars bought last month?
It's almost all gone.

Blame the sandwiches!
Chicken! Hard boiled egg on toast!
And those BLTs!

Plan for the weekend
Watch M*A*S*H and eat sandwiches
Bye-bye to mayo.

Thursday Haiku

Check me out! Keeping up with my Thursday Haiku and all. Sari must be so proud of me.

Buy shades for west side
Sun blazes through my windows
It won't let me nap.

No fair! No warning!
Doctor wants blood test today
And I'm in no mood.

No flowers planted
My balcony is barren
Must plant some next week.

Bought a new room fan
It's too hot to do without
Old one too noisy.

Mayonnaise is here!
Sweet, sweet peanut butter too
My mouth and bread smile.

Time for city fair!
Beer! Bratwurst! Concerts! More beer!
It's four days of fun.

Shuffle tomorrow
Bixente plays all the tunes
Come get your groove on!

Thursday Haiku

The week's nearly over so let's not break form now. It's Thursday, it's haiku. Let's go.

Holiday today
Bakery's closed, eat pancakes!
Bacon on the side.

See you scratch your head
"What holiday?" you ask me
It's Ascension Day.

"That's a holiday?"
It is here. We're no heathens!
It's Father's Day too.

Fish sticks for supper
Eat them with lots of ketchup
Rush back to childhood.

I'm convinced of this
When the world eats more fish sticks
We'll have fewer wars.

Guests come on weekend
Dust! Mop! Iron tablecloth!
Hide junk in closets.

Baking butter cake
Fluffy soft, drenched in butter
Arteries say "Stop!".

Shuffle tomorrow
Bixente kicks out good tunes
Wear your dancing shoes!

Thursday Haiku

Haiku poetry. Like a bulleted list but with style.

So windy today
Door bangs shut in garbage room
Dark. Scares me to death.

Brother called today
It's his graduation day
Call him Dr. Bill.

Look what's back in stores!
Bought myself six yesterday
Toys are from Shrek III

Doing Twitter now
Must follow all the new trends
Blame this on Poppy.

Peeled asparagus
And peeled and peeled and peeled and...
I won't eat the stuff.

Ordered some new books
Should be delivered this week
Two are about socks.

Shuffle tomorrow, folks. Wear your dancing shoes.

Ordinary Done Up Fancy

I wasn't going to write anything today because I don't have much to say but what the hell. Haiku makes even the most mundane sound elegant.

My hair's so filthy
No time to wash - sweaty, damp
Brush and just pin up.

Weird dream as I nap
ZZ Top makes video!
Just outside my home!

New clothes come today
Ordered three of same T-shirt
One in each color.

Yes, nerdy to do
But they're cute and soft and cheap
And look good on me.

And got new jeans too
Not too baggy in the ass
And legs aren't too long.

Not too bad a day
Cute new clothes and rock stars too
Now just need shampoo.

Thursday Haiku

It's three lines. It's a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. It's my Thursday.

Girl doctor today
Hairdresser this afternoon
Both ends are now fine.

Hey! No stirrups here!
Legs held underneath the knees
Not cold on your feet.

That speculum though
Always icy, icy cold
Must be straight from fridge.

Back in my old 'hood
That's where the hairdresser is
Very creepy there.

Just looks all slummy
Run down, tired and shabby
No regrets I moved.

Read a lot today
Get fidgety in the chair
The waiting is dull.

Six weeks and six months
Two new appointments are made
Then more of the same.

Thursday Haiku

You know, when you're low on events to write about, haiku helps. You can sum up your paltry day-to-day activities in the fantastic 5-7-5 syllable form and somehow make it look so much more interesting.

Wake up too early
Neighbor's kid plays piano
When's spring break over?

Can't find a basket
And no Easter grass either
I must improvise.

Brandy, chocolates,
Coffee and cigarettes too
Mother-in-law's treats

What Bunny brings her
Yeah, off-beat and unhealthy
S'Okay. She is old.

Man sits on corner
Plays accordion. He's good!
Put coins in his hat.

Must do spring cleaning
Thinking about starting soon
Must do, not just think.

Washed a load of clothes
Big pile shrinks down a little
One down, Ten to go.

Quiet weekend planned
Knitting! M*A*S*H on DVD!
Hope I find that yarn.

Haiku Thursday Blogging

Haven't done the haiku thing for a few weeks but Sari digs it. She digs lotsa cool things.

Not that my haiku is cool or anything...

Bad score on blood test
Sugar level is too high
Spit out that candy!

Veggie stand guys sing
Today it was to The Clash
Makes the spuds happy.

The sock's still not done
I'm working on the toe now
And I'm sick of it.

Finish it tonight!
New pair I'll start tomorrow
They'll be for Paula.

Week is winding down
Friday, then comes the weekend
Watch movies and knit.

I owe you email?
I know it and I'm sorry.
I'll write, I swear it!

Thursday Haiku Blogging - Christmas Edition

As if Thursday haiku blogging isn't enough for you, I add in the spicy mix of the holidays.

Or maybe it was just some leftover Chex Mix.

Star atop my tree
Crooked, straighten you again
Now dove flops over.

Lift's busted again
Drag shopping bags up the stairs
Next time buy less stuff.

Cookies left to bake
Iced sugar. Snickerdoodles.
Eat with ice cold milk.

Homesickness starts up
My family's so far away
Call them lots and lots.

Dance to Christmas tunes
Rudolph and Little St. Nick
And Santa Baby.

Now all wrapping's done
Boxes stowed under the tree
Wait for Weihnachtsmann

Last Advent shuffle
Friday, last holiday tunes
Is your favorite there?

You'll find out tomorrow.
